WE BELIEVE EVERY PERSON DESERVES ACCESS TO RELEVANT, EFFECTIVE, AND ONGOING DEPRESSION SUPPORT

Every year, one out of five American adults will experience at least one major depressive episode.

Untreated depression is devastating the lives of individuals, their families, and our communities.

Major depression is associated with greater functional impairment and higher societal costs than any other chronic health problem. Depression and suicidality are linked to unemployment, poverty, homelessness, substance use, a wide range of chronic physical llnesses, interpersonal problems, family instability, and an inability to access health care. Depression’s annual toll on the U.S. economy alone is estimated at $210 billion each year; and another American dies by suicide every 12 minutes.

"The LiveWell Foundation's work is very important, and should make a real impact on [the treatment of] chronic depression."

-Dr. Aaron T. Beck, the father of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

A VOLUNTEER-RUN COMMUNITY HEALTH PROGRAM
We transform lives through the LiveWell Program:  a peer-led, psychoeducational behavioral health program that is strategically designed to reduce symptoms and relapses of depression, and to increase well-being.

We offer community-based LiveWell support groups that are always free and open to the public: no health insurance or referral required, and walk-ins welcome.

Lead by a dedicated group of trained volunteers, our ongoing groups are facilitated by diverse community professionals with lived experience of depression and resilience.

WHAT SETS LIVEWELL APART
ACCESSABILITY
We offer daily depression support, because we know that recovery and staying well requires ongoing support from our peers and community.
*No diagnosis, insurance, or referral is required to access our free community-based support groups!

DIRECT SERVICE & PREVENTATIVE

Behavioral health at its most innovative and effective, the ten evidence-based LiveWell Strategies at the center of our one-of-a-kind experiential-learning psychoeducational curriculum is designed to empower people to take control of their own depression  treatment, as well as their ongoing mental health care.

EVIDENCE-BASED

Peer-led interventions are not only a cost effective way to reach a wide and diverse population, but research shows they are also as effective as psychotherapy for the longterm treatment of depression.
Guided Self-Care (the LiveWell Program) is also shown to actually determine the effectiveness of other treatments (e.g.,therapy & medications), and to reduce relapses.

EASILY REPLICATED

Designed to be easily replicated, the LiveWell Program© can be offered in any community, facility, or location.
We're also proud that our trained volunteer peer facilitators (community members with lived experience of depression and resilience) represent the diversity of our nation.
