WE BELIEVE EVERY PERSON DESERVES ACCESS TO RELEVANT AND EFFECTIVE MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT
Every year, one out of five American adults will experience at least one major depressive episode.
Untreated depression is devastating the lives of individuals, their families, and our communities.
Major depression is associated with greater functional impairment and higher societal costs than any other chronic health problem. Depression and suicidality are linked to unemployment, poverty, homelessness, interpersonal problems, family instability, substance use, a wide range of chronic physical llnesses, and an inability to access health care. Depression’s annual toll on the U.S. economy alone is estimated at $210 billion each year; and another American dies by suicide every 12 minutes.
WHAT WE DO
We offer neighborhood-based LiveWell support groups that are always free and open to the public: no health insurance or referral required, and walk-ins welcome. Our ongoing groups are led by a dedicated group of trained volunteers: diverse community professionals with lived experience of depression and resilience.
We transform lives through the LiveWell Program: a peer-led, psychoeducational behavioral health program that is strategically designed to reduce symptoms and relapses of depression, and to increase well-being.
"The LiveWell Foundation's work is very important, and should make a real impact on [the treatment of] chronic depression."
-Dr. Aaron T. Beck, the father of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
