"If we acknowledge that surviving depression requires a special toughness, we will not see depressed people as a broken legion, but as a resource who can teach us all something about overcoming adversity."

LiveWell Barbers

"Cutting" Depression & Suicide

Leading the way at Kreationz by Hand in South Philly:  Travis Atkinson, Robert Melendez, Dennis Waller, Ron Sciocchetti

A unique public health program, LiveWell Barbers is a network of volunteer barbers dedicated to being on the front line of depression awareness and suicide prevention in their own communities.

In their neighborhood shops, barbers are creating safe spaces for men to talk about mental health, and connecting them with local organizations that provide care and support.

Guided self-care is

evidence-based practice

Research shows guided self-care is as effective as face-to-face psychotherapy for depression.

Research also shows that guided self-care will actually determine the effectiveness of other treatments, such as therapy and medication.

WHY the LiveWell Program?®

#3. Because the ten evidence-based LiveWell Lifestyle Strategies

help people to reduce both symptoms and relapses of depression.

Because not all support groups are created equal...

Led by trained peer facilitators -- and endorsed by leading mental health experts -- our innovative, activities-based behavioral health program is strategically designed to educate, inspire, and empower people with depression to take control of their own depression treatment and ongoing mental health care.

Research shows that guided self-care will actually determine the effectiveness of other treatments (such as therapy and medication). And peer-led interventions are shown to have comparable results as face-to-face psychotherapy for the longterm treatment of depression.
