We offer workshops and classes on a wide range of topics related to mental health, personal growth, and living well in the modern world.  All courses are intended as stand-alone opportunities to learn new skills, or as a supplement to the tools acquired in our FREE peer-led support groups.

As a nonprofit passionate about ensuring all people can access high-quality psychoeducation, our affordable public courses are always offered at discounted rates as well.

EASY WRITING Techniques
for
Mental
Health
Self-Care
Tuesdays, Sept. 28 & Oct. 5

No writing experience is necessary to participate in this workshop led by the founder of the LiveWell Program®.  Just bring something to write with or on, and an open mind.

 

Discover how to use various writing techniques to quiet the internal self-critic, clarify thoughts and emotions, better monitor and manage moods, reduce anxiety, strengthen communication skills, and more. 

This class is limited. Please register at your earliest convenience.

INSTRUCTOR:  Stefanie Glick is the creator of the LiveWell Program®, and has offered skill-based psychoeducation and peer support to thousands of people around the world.  She is also a playwright and professional writing coach.

MOOD
BOOST
for 
Managing Depression
(all levels)

This two-hour workshop/class provides an experiential introduction to the scientifically-proven benefits of yoga as an effective tool to help manage depression.

 

We will discover how breath and movement can be used to provide an immediate mood-boost, and learn simple yoga techniques that can be used daily to support and maintain greater mental, emotional and physical health.

 

No experience needed; and all are welcome (modifications to suit your level will be offered throughout). Dress comfortably. Bring pen, paper, yoga mat, chair, firm cushion, and towel or blanket.  (If available, bring a yoga strap and blocks.

INSTRUCTOR:  Jurian Hughes is a senior faculty member at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, MA, where she has trained more than 1,000 yoga teachers. Known for her passionate, playful, and engaging teaching style, Jurian leads classes and programs online, in-person and around the world. She is the founder of Yoga of Voice,Yoga of Yes, as well as a voice coach, mentor, writer, and speaker.

TELL YOUR STORY
in Pictures & Words

 
Tuesdays, October 19 & 26

We all have a (mental health or other meaningful) story to tell. This introductory two-part class offers easy, practical, and wide-ranging techniques for translating personal life experience into compelling visual narrative stories.

NO DRAWING SKILL IS NECESSARY.  REALLY, WE MEAN IT!  All that you need to bring to this class is curiosity, enthusiasm, and a desire to find out what happens at the intersection of words and images. By the end of this workshop, each participant will have completed their own visual narrative.

INSTRUCTOR:  Emily Steinberg is a multi-disciplinary artist. Since 2013, her visual narratives have been regularly published in Cleaver Magazine, where she also is the visual narrative editor. Her cartoon and Daily Shouts story were recently published by The New Yorker.  Emily is a lecturer in Fine Arts at Penn State, and teaches visual narrative to medical students at Drexel College.

Cultivating a GROWTH MINDSET
for Mental Fitness & Resilience

Did you know the concept of a Growth Mindset  is proven to reduce negative thinking and self-crictism and to increase feelings of resilience, wellbeing, and self-confidence in almost every area of our lives?  This two-part interactive workshop will provide you an unique opportunity to:

  • Understand the principles and benefits of the Growth Mindset concept

  • Learn practical tools and techniques for maximizing ‘mindset’ to positively impact your mental fitness and resilience

  • Develop a small Growth Mindset experiment on any topic relevant to your life or mental health to try between the two sessions (and receive active peer support)

  • Identify how both the activity and workshop can be applied to overcoming challenges or increasing wellbeing throughout your future lifespan

INSTRUCTOR:  Eric Feuerlicht leads leadership development and coaching for a global management consulting organization. As a professional certified coach and positive psychology practitioner, he works individually and with groups on topics related to resilience, mindset, and leadership effectiveness.

Can Teach Us About Living Well with Depression

Stoicism, or the ideas and principles taught by ancient Greek and Roman Stoic philosophers, is arguably the earliest example of a system of psychotherapy. In fact, Aaron T. Beck - the founder of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - stated that “the philosophical origins of cognitive therapy can be traced back to the Stoic philosophers." 

 

Through informal discussion, we will identify practical ways in which teachings by these ancient philosophers can benefit our own depression treament and ongoing mental health self-care today.
